Meet Eugene Khumbanyiwa
Eugene Wanangwa Khumbanyiwa is a Malawian born, South Africa- based stage, television, film and voice actor, popularly known for playing the role of Obesandjo in the 2009 Oscar- nominated sci-fi hit ‘District 9.’ Khumbanyiwa was born at Cobbe Barracks Hospital in Zomba, Malawi’s former capital. He has four siblings. His father is Major Stewart Khumbanyiwa, a retired soldier, and his mother Victoria (née Manda), a retired primary school teacher.
Khumbanyiwa is a well decorated Actor with 24 projects under his belt. Besides English, he speaks Chewa, also known as Nyanja, and some Swahili, both languages are of the Bantu language family. These languages can be heard in movies like “District 9 (2009)” and “Death Race: Inferno(2012)” as part of his character’s dialogue.
